Seeker’s Dilemma

Trapped in a play
Of your own making
No way out
But to follow the light

Daybreak comes
When it’s too late
A life of joy
Your only fate

Awaken from your sleep
My dear
There’s no one else but you
Here

Don’t be sad
You may still cry
The tears that flow
Will no more lie

Trapped no more
It’s time to fly
To be — your Self
No time to die

Those dreams you’ve had
Where you’re not whole
Gone with the wind
Burned up like coal

~ Kieran Butler

Context

The Seeker’s Dilemma is a poem on the nature of spiritual seeking. It hints at the paradox of searching for something you already are.

It’s one of the few poems I’ve written that has remained unedited from how it originally came through.
